By the late sixties it was the largest civilian-owned range in the Northwest, and in 1960 it became the first rifle club in the country certified as a tree farm. It carried the name Paul Bunyan for decades before it ever owned one.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe giant is a twenty-foot fibreglass lumberjack, a cousin of the Muffler Men that used to stand outside businesses all over America. The club’s own secretary wrote in 1997 that they picked him up around 1991 from a motel in downtown Puyallup after a windstorm broke his ankles. Others swear he stood at a Dairy Queen at River Road and Meridian in the seventies.
