{"product_id":"fly-high-with-the-flying-boots-cafe-34075","title":"Fly High with the Flying Boots Cafe #34075","description":"\u003cp\u003eA winged cowboy boot in neon on South 38th Street — and it is still lit.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Flying Boots dates to the late 1930s in Tacoma’s Lincoln District: a cafe on one side, a bar called the Spur Room on the other, and out front one of the best neon signs in the city — a cowboy boot with wings and a golden spur. Nobody has ever written down where the name came from. Tacoma artist Chandler O’Leary painted the sign, day and night, for a show about the city.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt closed in July 2013 after roughly seventy-five years, and on the last day regulars took the place apart for souvenirs. It was vandalised while it sat empty and the original memorabilia went with it. Somebody bought the building that December, restored the sign and reopened in April 2014. It trades today as Flying Boots \u0026amp; Wings, same address, same boot.
